I am often asked the question… what is the difference between a designer and a decorator and what does a designer actually do?
My explanation is this…
A decorator offers services focusing on ascetics such as color selections, soft good production and finish selection. A designer is most times professionally educated in design and has a degree. The designer is trained to focus on a wide range of design considerations beyond ascetics. They focus on a broader range of issues regarding the construction of the space. It is their job to assure that a space functions well, is safe for its occupants and that sustainable products were installed.
While Chatham Interiors, Inc. certainly offers decorating services, our primary focus is remodeling and new construction. Educational training and experience enables us to ask questions that a client may never consider. We feel strongly that many of the negative issues, time delays and unexpected costs can be avoided if we ask the right questions upfront, develop a comprehensive interior schedule for the client and the construction team, and work closely with the project team until completion. It gives us great pride to take excellent care of our clients and leave them with an end result far beyond their own expectations.
