WINGS~ a new beginning for New Hope with an orange blanket

This time last year I was working on the renovation of TheBlount County Children’s Advocacy Center, also known has New Hope. This non-profit does an amazing job serving the abused children of Blount County, and their families.

As I gathered produt together on a shoe string budget, I could have never imagined how special that orange blanket would become to the Forensic Interview Room. I was told that each child gravitates towards it and holds it as they begin their story.

Interior design is not only what we see but what we feel.

This mother of three wanted a special place in her new master bath that was just for her. She requested that I come up with a unique mirror for the space. I suggested an antique, silver tray be re-purposed by adding a mirror. It was a beautiful and elegant addition.

I found this exquisite chest of drawers in my recent visit to Nashville in the Tennessee State Museum. It was created by cabinet maker John E. Rose in 1826. I couldn’t get past the detail and time involved to make such an amazing treasure. Such detail seems to be a lost art.

I don’t live near my parents and miss them a great deal. They are sentimentality represented throughout my home. Perhaps one of my favorite: engraved silver trays I have hung on our dining room wall. During my father’s Naval career, my mother was presented with them as recognition for her devotion and service. I love to think of her using them at elegant dinner parties in the 60′s and 70′s.

It is object like these that remind you who and where you have come from.

I love traveling as a designer because you walk into a showroom like this and are visually bombarded with an explosion of thought and color. F. Schumacher does an amazing job of combining the old with the new. This is a wonderful example. Sales team is just wonderful.

Get Ready to Take a Seat~ I will be retro-fitting the Clayton Center for the Performing Arts with furniture at the beginning of February. I love to think about the people who will enjoy this furniture as they wait for a production to start or a group of college students studying for a final. I will keep you posted.
