Get Ready to Take a Seat~ I will be retro-fitting the Clayton Center for the Performing Arts with furniture at the beginning of February. I love to think about the people who will enjoy this furniture as they wait for a production to start or a group of college students studying for a final. I will keep you posted.

Sometimes it is just a matter of trusting your designer. I promised that the simple kitchen faucet plays such a role. In this case, this bridge faucet is the necklace on the stunning dress.

I always have to smile when something beautiful is created from a design element. In this case, a beautiful shadow is created from a sheer curtain. The design against the tile and door is captivating. I appreciate my talented photographer for not rolling her eyes when I asked her to capture this image and capturing this image better than I remember it.

One of the greatest thrills about being a designer is offering clients custom design elements that make their life easier. This wonderful client wanted three things; to keep his printer handy, a hinged door to access and a way to better organize his daily newspapers. This was the end result. Now each morning, he can quickly find the exact paper he wishes to read.

These antique medicine bottles were given to me on my first wedding anniversary. They were my grandmothers. She had filled them with flower petals from my wedding. And she said I was then sentimental one… What a treasure they are to me.

The goal for me with each new client is to create a unique space. Often times, this means taking a chance and doing something for the first time. Here I elected to install two different nails as trim on this gorgeous leather sofa; square and round. The end result is a handsome detail that unexpected and pleasing to the eye.

I was so thrilled that the antique windows in my new home would allow me to celebrate an old New England Tradition of decorating a home with Starfish. This was started so that on a cold winter evening, one could glance their direction and be reminded of a long walk on a summer beach.

Although Starfish have been given the new name of Sea Stars because they are in fact not Fish I can’t seem to make that transition. I have far too many memoires of walking with my beloved grandmother on Hardings Beach searching for treasures to take home…always at the top of list was the beloved Starfish.

A home should be filled with items that speak to you each day. This watercolor was one of my grandmother’s prize possessions. I am so grateful that it came to me when she passed away. It hangs in my kitchen and I look at it each morning over coffee and think of her.

The day we sprinkled a small box of ashes on Hardings Beach to say good bye to her, I found this perfect feather propped up perfectly in the sand. Collecting bird feathers was something we shared all during my childhood. I just smiled, bent over and picked it up.

One of my mother’s favorite sayings ~ :If you give a child good roots then you can give them good wings.” Of course she was meaning to instill great values in a child and strong sense of self and then allow them the freedom to grow and explore. What I have come to realize is that my love for interior design can be summed up best in these two, simple words.

My passion for design comes from my ROOTS. The home I grew up in was warm, inviting and cohesive. It was filled with sentimental items that told a story of who we were. My WINGS can be best described by the many things I am exposed to each day. It may be a lecture I attend, searching for product, travel or Mother Nature herself. I am constantly inspired by new elements and concepts that force me to move beyond what I know.

This blog is a reflection of such and is dedicated to my mother, my grandmother and all those who inspire me.
